A question a lot of people ask me is can you really make money betting on sports? I truly believe the answer to this question is yes. I’m not saying it’s easy and I’m sure that the vast majority of people who bet on sports are losing money. This doesn’t mean that you can’t profitably bet on sports though and I’m sure there are lots of people out there who are making money betting on sports.

To be honest a lot of gamblers don’t have any clue about the theory behind betting profitably on sports. You need to be backing outcomes at odds which are higher than the actual odds of the outcome happening. So lets say England are 10/1 to win the World Cup but we know that their true odds off winning the world cup are 5/1. This is a profitable bet even if England don’t win the tournament becasue we are getting paid out at odds higher than the true odds of the event. If you make enough of these bets then you will make money in the long run.

The problem is often it is impossible to know the true odds of any event happening. All you can do is find a way to esitmate the ture odds of an outcome occuring and compare it to the odds the bookies are offering. Most sports bettors will just look at the odds and if they like the size of the price go for it. You must think about the true odds of the event in relation to the odds on offer if you are going to bet profitably on sports.
